Prerequisites

Before connecting to the server, ensure you have the following installed and updated:

Grand Theft Auto V: A legally purchased, fully updated copy of GTA V installed via Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or Rockstar Games Launcher. The game must be launched at least once in story mode before FiveM will work.

FiveM Client: Downloaded from the official FiveM website.

Step 1: Install FiveM

Close Grand Theft Auto V if it is currently running.

Download the FiveM client installer from https://fivem.net/.

Run the installer (FiveM.exe). It will automatically download necessary data files.

If prompted by Windows Defender or your antivirus, allow FiveM through your firewall.

Step 2: Link and Log Into Discord

Most FiveM servers utilize Discord for authentication, whitelisting, and community roles.

Open and log into your Discord desktop application.

Keep Discord running in the background while playing on the server.

Step 3: Connect to the Server

You can connect using one of three methods depending on your preference:

Method A: Direct Connect via IP (Fastest)

Launch FiveM.

Press the F8 key on your keyboard to open the console.

Type the following command and press Enter (replace YOUR.SERVER.IP:PORT with your community's actual address):

connect 91.124.123.2:30138

Method B: The Server Browser

Launch FiveM.

Click on Play from the main menu.

Click on the Server List or use the search bar at the top left.

Type the exact name of the server, select it from the results, and click Connect.

Method C: Direct Web Link (F8 / Server Page)

If your community provided a web link (e.g., a cfx.re/join/e66k88d link), click it directly in your browser.

Your browser will automatically prompt you to open FiveM. Click Open FiveM.

Step 4: Asset Download and Loading

Upon your first connection, FiveM will automatically download custom server assets (vehicles, clothing, maps, scripts) from the server's fast-download repository.

This initial download may take a few minutes depending on your internet connection and the size of the server's files.

Once the download finishes, you will be loaded directly into the server's character creation or spawn selection screen.

Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues

"Crashed / Game Memory Error": Verify your GTA V game files through Steam, Epic Games, or Rockstar Launcher, then restart your PC.

"Authentication Failed": Ensure your Discord desktop app is running and you are logged into the account linked to your FiveM profile.

Stuck on Loading Screen: Clear your FiveM cache by navigating to your FiveM application data folder (FiveM Application Data/data/cache) and deleting the cache folder (keep server-cache-file).
